Dr. Krings' Biography
Dr. Krings, founder and owner of Riverhill Psychological Associates, S.C., has served as a clinical psychologist in Manitowoc County since 1978. Before assuming private practice in Wisconsin, Dr. Krings was selected as the first Behavioral Learning Disabilities teacher in Baltimore County, Maryland. Her teaching techniques were subsequently utilized to develop a graduate course to educate other teachers in token economy/behavior modification techniques.
Dr. Krings later held certified psychologist positions in Maryland, Delaware, and Michigan. During the Vietnam War, Dr. Krings served as the first Senior Counselor Staff Advisor for the U.S. Army's first Drug and Alcohol Assistance Center in Bamberg, Germany. In 1973, Dr. Krings was honored to be chosen as the only civilian to speak with and advise General Creighton Abrams, Chief of Staff, United States Army and previous Commander of American Forces in Vietnam, Washington, D.C. regarding drug and alcohol problems experienced by military personnel stationed in Europe and Vietnam. Dr. Krings was also selected as a facilitator for the U.S. Army's Drug and Alcohol Convention held in Chiemsee, Germany.
In an accelerated three-year program, Dr. Krings completed her undergraduate study at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, and graduated with honors. She obtained her Master's Degree at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. After course work at the University of Michigan, she graduated from the University of Ottawa, Canada, and received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Making history in the Graduate Psychology Department, Dr. Krings completed her Ph.D. requirements in less time than any other graduate student ever enrolled at the University. She interned at the Royal Ottawa Hospital and at Psychological Services in Ottawa.
Dr. Krings' professional activities include the evaluation, diagnosis, and counseling of child, adolescent, couple, and family psychopathology with a focus on depression and anxiety disorders. Her other clinical interests include medical psychotherapy, women's issues, posttraumatic stress, anger management, grief counseling, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexual dysfunction, addictions, career, employment, vocational and college challenges, identity concerns, adult child of alcoholic problems, crisis interventions, and also spiritual and paranormal concerns.
In addition to psychological counseling, Dr. Krings completes psychodiagnostic assessments and consultations for business, government, and social agencies. She is a consultant for Aurora Medical Center and Holy Family Memorial Medical Center (HFMMC). She was the first psychologist on staff at the former Two Rivers Community Hospital and the former Memorial Hospital. She also was the first psychologist to collaborate with the HFMMC oncology team in developing routine psychological care and was involved in the I Can Cope program for cancer patients. In the early 80's Dr. Krings was asked by the Governor's office to serve as the first woman on the Department Of Regulation and Licensing, Psychology Examining Board, but she was unable to accept this position due to other responsibilities.
Dr. Krings enjoys doing regular radio presentations locally and has also spoken internationally. She was the first psychologist to appear weekly on the WOMT talk show "Be My Guest". She has also appeared as a guest speaker on TV. She has written extensively for professional organizations and for newspapers about diverse psychological topics including a weekly teen advice column. Dr. Krings has served on the Planned Parenthood Board, consulted for Head Start and the Kewaunee Unified Board, and she has served on the Manitowoc County AIDS Task Force. She continues to speak for medical and community organizations and has made hundreds of presentations throughout the years. Personally, Dr. Krings most enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loves traveling and meeting people of all ages and from all walks of life. She has a listening ear for a good joke, and she collects psychology-related cartoons and verse. Artistic endeavors, gardening, reading, and corresponding with the Guatemalan child she sponsors through the A.M.G. International Organization are cherished activities, also.
